Salary: USD 405,000 - 485,000 / annual
Anthropic is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Platform Portability team, which owns the abstractions, tooling, and deployment infrastructure that enable Claude to run reliably across multiple cloud providers and accelerator platforms.
In this role, you will design and build systems that enable Anthropic to bring up new capacity, ship Claude to cloud provider platforms and marketplaces, and move workloads between providers with confidence. You'll work closely with cloud partners on capabilities that don't yet exist, and collaborate with internal Compute, Inference, and Security teams to abstract away cloud-specific details from most engineers at Anthropic.
Your work spans two primary areas:
**Portable Infrastructure**: Design and build provider-agnostic abstractions for storage, messaging, and connectivity that support frontier-scale model inference. Create tooling that lets internal teams provision, configure, and operate services across clouds through a single consistent interface. Identify and eliminate provider-specific assumptions in the codebase and establish patterns to prevent new ones from emerging.
**Claude on Partner Clouds**: Own end-to-end delivery of Claude to third-party cloud platforms, including build, release, and validation pipelines. Work directly with engineering teams at cloud partners and internal infrastructure stakeholders to land required features, debug platform issues, and influence their roadmaps. Go deep on native integrations with each provider and cross-cutting work to maintain platform consistency.
You'll also shape how Anthropic builds for multiple clouds through design reviews, mentoring engineers on multi-cloud patterns, and aligning internal stakeholders. You'll participate in on-call rotations and design postmortems, runbooks, and incident response processes.
Required qualifications include minimum 8 years of experience building and operating production distributed systems, ownership of large-scale infrastructure systems, and experience running the same production workload across multiple cloud providers. You should understand cloud IAM models, networking primitives (VPC peering, private connectivity, service mesh), and be proficient in at least one general-purpose programming language (Python, Go, Rust). Strong experience with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi) is essential. Understanding of ML infrastructure and supporting interconnects is valued. Experience shipping software through hyperscaler marketplaces or managed-model platforms is a plus, as is background in security, compliance, or data residency for regulated environments.
