Anthropic is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to join the Connectivity team, which spans San Francisco and London. The Connectivity team's mission is to make Claude the most connected AI by defining how AI agents safely access external systems with proper permissions and enterprise trust.
In this role, you will design, build, and operate core connectivity infrastructure behind external tool calls, including the MCP (Model Context Protocol) proxy and OAuth/token management systems. You'll own reliability for infrastructure that other teams and external partners depend on, managing SLOs, on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortems. You'll build admin controls and permission models enabling enterprise IT to govern agent capabilities, and contribute to the MCP standard and ecosystem, including the spec and official Python/TypeScript SDKs.
Key responsibilities include independently scoping complex multi-month projects, driving cross-organizational alignment through ambiguous problem spaces, and making architectural decisions that shape how Anthropic builds and scales its products. You'll partner directly with research teams to productionize cutting-edge capabilities and have lasting impact on a platform used by hundreds of thousands of companies and engineers daily.
You should have backend or platform engineering experience, familiarity with AI tools in software development, and a product-focused approach to platform work. You'll take full ownership from design through build, deployment, and operations. Experience operating production distributed systems at scale, with deep understanding of reliability, observability, and incident response, is essential. Strong communication skills and ability to build consensus across teams and time zones are required.
