Found is building financial automation tools for small business owners, handling taxes, accounting, bookkeeping, and banking. The company automates routine financial tasks so business owners can focus on growth rather than administrative burden.
The Platform team is a small, high-impact group (supporting 30+ engineers) responsible for system reliability, security, compliance, and developer experience. You will architect and scale key systems including databases and distributed job processing, design developer tooling for safer and easier deployments, drive observability and incident response excellence, collaborate with engineering teams on technical quality, and mentor engineers on building reliable, fault-tolerant systems.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Architecting future versions of core systems (databases, distributed jobs, etc.) with scaling needs in mind
- Designing and implementing developer tooling for safe, reproducible, easy rollouts
- Driving observability and monitoring excellence while guiding incident response
- Collaborating with engineering teams to maintain technical quality and address tech debt
- Mentoring engineers on reliable system design and runbook creation
This is a Staff-level individual contributor role with significant technical leadership scope. You will balance moving fast with moving safely, work with SLOs/SLAs, and have experience scaling systems through multiple growth phases.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years of backend technology experience in public cloud environments
- Proven track record scaling and troubleshooting production systems; experience leading cross-functional projects with business impact
- Deep understanding of end-to-end request flow and system component interactions across the stack (frontend, CDN/WAF, load balancing, backend services); ability to reason about performance, reliability, and failure modes at any layer
- Strong fundamental knowledge of SLAs and SLOs, with ideas on implementing them in fast-paced environments
- Experience managing tech debt and driving engineering quality improvements across multiple teams
DESIRABLE:
- Experience with OpenTelemetry, StatsD, or Prometheus
- Working knowledge of compliance frameworks (PCI, SOC2)
- Infrastructure as code experience (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Familiarity with Sidekiq, Redis, or async job processing systems
- Mobile app infrastructure experience (Capacitor, React Native)
- Experience building internal tooling or bots for engineering workflows
- Interest in financial services, accounting, or self-employment
