Salary: USD 200,000 - 240,000 / annual
Cantina Labs is a social AI company building advanced real-time models that power creative expression, personality-driven characters, and realistic social interactions. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Platform Team, you will architect and build the foundational systems that enable the entire engineering organization to move faster and ship better products.
You'll own several critical areas: designing and building core services and product platform components (entity systems, relationship management) used across teams; developing and maintaining search infrastructure including indexes and relevance systems; overseeing DevOps and infrastructure initiatives including AWS management, Terraform configurations, and platform observability; and continuously improving developer experience by optimizing the backend repository and Go stack to reduce iteration cycles.
Beyond hands-on engineering, you'll provide consulting and mentorship to other engineering teams, promoting best practices and guiding adoption of new platform technologies. This is a high-leverage role focused on long-term strategic investments that unblock product development.
You bring 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on foundation-level platform services and infrastructure. You have extensive AWS and Terraform expertise for managing large-scale distributed systems, deep Go proficiency with backend architecture skills, and experience building reusable frameworks and tools. You understand developer productivity metrics and have a track record of improving internal iteration cycles. Experience with search infrastructure, indexing strategies, and observability platforms is expected. You're collaborative, able to lead cross-cutting initiatives, and comfortable consulting on architectural decisions across the organization.
