Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Application Core Services (AppCore) team, which builds the control plane powering Grafana Cloud. This team designs and operates the systems that create, configure, and manage thousands of customer environments reliably at scale.
You will work at the intersection of product, platform, and operations, developing backend services that power critical customer and internal workflows including provisioning, cloud marketplace integrations, billing, and customer lifecycle management. The role involves solving complex distributed systems challenges around reliability, automation, and operational efficiency as Grafana Cloud scales.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building distributed backend systems that maintain customer stack state consistency across Grafana Cloud
- Developing reconciliation and automation workflows to improve reliability and reduce operational complexity
- Leading technical initiatives spanning multiple services in collaboration with Product, Infrastructure, and adjacent platform teams
- Improving deployment workflows, regional expansion, rollout safety, and incident recovery across thousands of customer environments
- Owning production systems end-to-end, including observability, operational tooling, on-call rotations, and continuous reliability improvements
- Participating in a global follow-the-sun on-call rotation
The ideal candidate has experience building and operating large-scale SaaS or cloud platforms, strong backend engineering skills in Go or similar systems languages, and expertise with Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code. You should enjoy solving distributed systems problems, be comfortable with eventual consistency and stateful services, and able to independently lead projects while navigating ambiguity.
