Robinhood is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Observability team and own the company's full-stack observability platform. This role is responsible for designing and operating systems that provide deep visibility into Robinhood's infrastructure, ensuring reliability at scale across metrics, logs, distributed tracing, and alerting pipelines.
You will serve as the technical lead shaping the observability roadmap, owning the observability control plane end-to-end and making architectural decisions that directly impact the reliability of Robinhood's entire product surface. You'll lead a team of six engineers, drive strategy for cost-efficient telemetry ingestion, build in-house solutions where commercial tools fall short, and integrate AI-driven approaches to accelerate progress toward full-stack observability.
Key responsibilities include defining and executing the full-stack observability roadmap across metrics, logs, traces, and alerting infrastructure; owning and evolving the observability control plane including telemetry ingestion pipelines and cost management strategies; leading a team of six engineers to build scalable, self-service observability solutions; establishing and maintaining SLOs that meet or exceed Robinhood's 99.9% uptime target; and partnering with the Robinhood Command Center and engineering teams to align on dependency mapping, incident response workflows, and observability standards.
Required qualifications include 8+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of owning large-scale observability or infrastructure platform initiatives; deep expertise in Kubernetes and public cloud environments (AWS preferred); strong coding proficiency in Go, Python, or similar languages with experience integrating observability agents and instrumentation into production codebases; demonstrated experience owning an observability control plane or telemetry pipeline in a high-traffic production environment; and familiarity with Vector, Prometheus, Grafana, Honeycomb, Humio, or Sentry.
The role is based in Menlo Park, CA with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week. Robinhood offers competitive compensation with performance-driven bonuses, equity ownership, 401(k) matching, comprehensive health insurance, access to AI tools, lifestyle wallet benefits, and employer-paid life and disability insurance.
