Okta is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join Core Frontier, a new team within the Core Identity organization at Auth0 (Okta's identity platform). This is a founding staff role based in Bengaluru, India, working on the authentication pipeline and identity protocols that power 100+ million daily logins globally.
You will lead the design and delivery of sophisticated identity features, ensuring they are hardened, scaled, and seamlessly integrated into the Auth0 ecosystem. Your work bridges deep product innovation with global customer experience, solving distributed systems challenges at scale while maintaining security and performance.
The role involves:
- Setting technical standards and engineering culture for the new Bengaluru team while collaborating with global teams in Europe and North America
- Owning strategic technical quality, security, reliability, and scalability of core identity systems
- Designing and delivering features that extend Auth0's platform capabilities
- Identifying architectural gaps and advocating for long-term improvements across the Core Identity organization
- Mentoring engineers and contributing to a culture of technical excellence
- Participating in on-call rotations for critical services
- Working cross-functionally with Product, Security, Design, Architecture, and QA teams
You will primarily work with Node.js backend (TypeScript/JavaScript), MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Redis on multi-cloud infrastructure (AWS and Azure). The ideal candidate has 8+ years of professional software development experience, strong proficiency in Node.js service design, experience building and maintaining secure APIs, expertise in distributed systems and cloud environments, and a proven track record of driving technical alignment across teams and mentoring senior engineers. Experience in Identity and Access Management (IAM) is highly valued.
