Abnormal AI is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical direction of the Multi-Product Platform (MPP) division for the APAC region. This is a leadership role combining hands-on architecture and mentorship of a 15+ person engineering team.
You will own the full customer journey—from prospect engagement through onboarding and ongoing success—as Abnormal expands into international markets, the public sector, and new customer segments. The role sits at the intersection of product strategy, distributed systems, and market expansion, requiring you to make architectural decisions that shape how the platform scales globally.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and mentoring 15+ engineers, raising technical standards and supporting career growth
- Driving evolution of the customer-facing platform as the company enters new geographies and segments
- Owning complex, high-impact features that serve Fortune 500 organizations and smaller enterprises
- Defining and maintaining SLAs for distributed systems at scale, ensuring operational excellence
- Collaborating with product, design, and cross-functional stakeholders to gather feedback and ship quickly
- Building a strong team culture and hiring process that reflects Abnormal's values
You will contribute both code and strategic guidance, accountable for both technical delivery and team development. The problems are genuinely hard—the company protects 15%+ of the Fortune 500 from sophisticated email security threats, account takeover attacks, and emerging threats. As Abnormal expands its product portfolio beyond email security, your team will build the infrastructure and self-serve experiences that power this growth.
Required: 8+ years designing and building web and distributed applications across multiple data centers; 2+ years at staff level with a track record of cross-team mentorship and high-impact delivery; demonstrated experience leading multi-quarter customer-facing projects from inception to stable production; strong cross-functional collaboration skills; deep opinions on technical excellence (design, code quality, testing, debugging, production ops); BS in Computer Science or related field.
Nice to have: cybersecurity or security-adjacent product experience; enterprise SaaS background; familiarity with Python/Go, TypeScript, React/Redux, AWS, Kubernetes.
