Adyen is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and execution of critical money movement systems that power their global financial products platform. In this role, you will serve as a technical leader and trusted advisor, shaping architecture and driving technical excellence across distributed systems that support payments, data, and financial products for enterprise customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft. Key responsibilities include scaling Adyen's money movement foundation to support all product lines, providing architectural leadership for the Financial Products offering, optimizing global banking connections across regions where Adyen holds banking licenses and partner relationships, designing and building new banking rails as the company expands, mentoring engineers to uphold high technical standards, and driving a culture of continuous innovation. You will work closely with engineering teams, product partners, and cross-functional stakeholders across cultures to solve complex technical challenges at scale. This is a pivotal opportunity to shape the future of Financial Products at Adyen with impact felt across the organization. Required qualifications: 10+ years of hands-on development experience in modern engineering environments, 2+ years in financial services (banking or fintech), technical leadership experience including mentoring and engineering strategy, hands-on experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems, strong Java coding background, platform mindset with ability to generalize complex processes into flexible services, proactive relationship-building with strong cross-cultural communication skills, and self-starter mentality. Nice-to-have: experience with banking in EU, UK, or US markets, and understanding of different regulatory and operational challenges across regions.
