Salary: USD 204,000 - 290,000 / annual
Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, offering buy-now-pay-later solutions without hidden fees. The App Infrastructure team owns the shared mobile platform that powers all of Affirm's mobile feature development, including design systems, networking, observability, experimentation, CI/CD, app releases, developer tooling, and stability.
As a Staff Software Engineer on this team, you will set technical strategy on a year-long horizon and drive critical, business-impacting projects. You'll collaborate across product, design, and analytics teams to ensure technical sustainability and manage risks and trade-offs. You act as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating for technical solutions and operational processes that the broader engineering organization adopts.
You own your team's operations and availability by establishing monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting for on-call support. You foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards, advocating for them through writing and tech talks, and developing talent through feedback and mentorship.
Required: 7+ years mobile app development and architecture experience; 4+ years with React Native. Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, hands-on React Native and Expo experience, including native module authoring and migration. Experience with complex state management (Redux Toolkit a plus), React Native SDK major updates, debugging across JS↔native boundaries under New Architecture, and staying current with native OS releases.
Experience with mobile testing and observability tooling (Maestro/Appium, Sentry/Crashlytics, Statsig/LaunchDarkly) and a track record of building tools other teams adopt. Proficiency with AI-assisted development (Claude Code or equivalent) and judgment about where agents help and where guardrails are needed. Proven ability to drive large project execution, deliver major features, deprecate systems, and write high-quality, understandable code. Comfortable with ambiguity across language idioms and large system architecture. Strong communication skills supporting global collaboration. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent practical experience required.
