Mailchimp, a leading marketing platform owned by Intuit, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Audience Platform team. This role focuses on improving access to audience data—tens of billions of records that power feature development across the company—spanning infrastructure, product surfaces, data pipelines, and modernization onto Intuit's cloud-first platform. You will set the team's technical direction, establish patterns and processes, and lead through example in your own work. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with teams throughout the company and represent the group in discussions with Directors and VPs. The role emphasizes both technical excellence and mentorship, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to balance shipping features with building sustainable systems. Key responsibilities include: working cross-functionally to understand how teams use audience data and setting overall technical direction; building and maintaining APIs, services, and infrastructure powering tens of billions of records; partnering with product teams to turn audience data into customer-facing features; designing and leading the modernization of the audience data platform as it moves to a cloud-first environment; building data engineering foundations including large-scale pipelines, streaming, and storage; and providing technical guidance and mentorship to team members. The technical environment spans Mailchimp's existing stack and Intuit's platform. Technologies include: Intuit Modern SaaS (MSaaS) platform with Kubernetes and API Gateway; Mailchimp's PHP/MySQL/React monolith; Docker and Kubernetes orchestration; Spring Boot with Java/Kotlin; GraphQL via Netflix DGS framework; Google Cloud Platform microservices with Cloud Spanner, Cloud SQL, and Dataflow; Kafka-based event streaming; and Jenkins/GitHub Actions for CI/CD. Ideal candidates have experience driving cross-functional projects, working with distributed systems, modernizing systems onto cloud-first or Kubernetes platforms, and building or operating large-scale data pipelines. Coding experience in PHP, Go, Java, Kotlin, or similar languages is required. Familiarity with GraphQL, GCP, or Kubernetes is a plus. You should be a self-starter who can work independently while emphasizing mentorship.
