Datadog is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of its Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) Logs offering—a unified observability pipeline platform that customers deploy and manage within their own infrastructure. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on building and scaling systems that process, route, and store high-volume observability data in customer-managed environments. You will drive architecture decisions, lead cross-team initiatives, and mentor engineers while solving deeply technical challenges at scale. Key responsibilities include making customer-controlled deployments feel like a managed Datadog product through thoughtful design of deployment, upgrades, configuration, observability, diagnostics, and secure operation across diverse cloud environments. You'll build high-throughput systems for log processing and transformation, improve system performance and cost efficiency through capacity planning and trade-off analysis, and contribute hands-on to critical code paths and deployment challenges. You bring significant experience building software installed and operated in customer environments (not just SaaS). You have strong expertise in distributed systems, scalability, performance optimization, and high-throughput data processing. You're proficient in systems-level programming (Go, Rust, or C++) and understand how software runs across diverse Linux environments. You have hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization, and Kubernetes in production. You have a proven track record leading large cross-functional engineering efforts and influencing technical direction across teams. Datadog operates as a hybrid workplace, valuing office culture and collaboration while supporting work-life harmony. The role offers competitive compensation, equity (RSUs), continuous career development, best-in-class onboarding, mentorship programs, and an inclusive workplace culture.
