Kong is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to architect and lead the development of Kong Identity's multi-tenant identity platform. This is a high-impact technical leadership role focused on building enterprise-grade identity infrastructure that handles millions of authentication requests daily. Key responsibilities include designing advanced token management systems with refresh token rotation, proof-of-possession tokens, and real-time revocation capabilities. You'll architect Kong Identity's extensible claims engine supporting dynamic attribute resolution and complex business logic evaluation at token issuance. The role involves designing global identity infrastructure with edge optimization, intelligent token caching, and cross-region replication for sub-millisecond authentication latency worldwide. You'll design sophisticated rate limiting, anomaly detection, and fraud prevention systems to protect against credential stuffing and token abuse. Build enterprise identity federation capabilities including SAML bridge patterns, external IdP chaining, and custom protocol adapters for legacy system integration. Lead technical strategy for developer experience including SDKs, webhooks, audit logging, and real-time analytics dashboards. Additional responsibilities include architecting advanced client management systems, designing the plugin architecture for custom grant flows and protocol extensions, and driving implementation of compliance frameworks (SOC 2, FedRAMP, GDPR). You'll lead technical initiatives for observability platform integration and mentor engineering teams on advanced identity concepts including zero-trust architectures and service mesh integration patterns. Required qualifications include 7+ years building production identity platforms at leading identity providers or enterprise software companies. Deep expertise in OAuth 2.0 extensions, OpenID Connect profiles, and emerging standards like OAuth 2.1 and GNAP. Proven experience architecting multi-tenant identity platforms with complex isolation requirements and enterprise feature sets. Strong background in cryptographic protocols, JWT patterns, key rotation strategies, and HSM integration. Experience building identity platforms with sophisticated analytics and real-time monitoring at enterprise scale, plus expertise in global identity infrastructure, enterprise integration patterns, and developer-first platform design.
