Zipline is the world's largest autonomous drone delivery service, operating on four continents and completing millions of deliveries of blood, vaccines, medical supplies, food, and retail products. The company has flown over 140 million commercial autonomous miles and is redefining logistics and healthcare access globally. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Integrations Platform team, you will own the technical direction and architecture of Zipline's partner integration platform as a hands-on individual contributor. You will shape the platform roadmap across teams, build production software, and enable engineers to deliver reliable partner API integrations at scale. Key responsibilities include: • Design and build frontend and backend SDKs that enable partners to integrate with Zipline and create customer experiences in their own applications • Define clear platform architecture, including interfaces between partner-specific connectors and Zipline's core systems, covering order lifecycle, authentication, authorization, data mapping, and monitoring • Establish API and SDK versioning, compatibility practices, and integration acceptance criteria to ensure safe adoption and production readiness • Create sandbox environments, partner API simulators, and automated contract tests enabling engineering teams to develop and validate integrations independently • Build documentation, reference implementations, and onboarding workflows that reduce developer ramp time and minimize support burden • Establish consistent retry, idempotency, and fallback behavior across partner APIs and webhooks; own monitoring, runbooks, and incident response for integration failures • Evolve partner data models to support long-term finance and operations requirements, reducing partner-specific workarounds • Lead technical reviews and mentor engineers; measure developer ramp time, integration delivery time, defect rates, and SDK adoption to guide platform investment • Work directly with partner engineers, Product, and Commercial teams to translate enterprise requirements into platform roadmap and resolve technical blockers Your work will unlock enterprise deals with major clients by making integration faster and more reliable, shortening the path from signed partnership to production launch. Requirements: • 7+ years building and operating production backend or distributed systems, with demonstrated ownership of architecture and delivery across services and teams • Experience building developer platforms, SDKs, or internal tooling used by other engineers to ship production software, ideally for external API integrations • Strong skills in API design, data modeling, asynchronous workflows, schema evolution, eventual consistency, and idempotent processing • Ability to turn varied external APIs into reusable connector patterns with clear boundaries and testable contracts; experience with automated integration testing and development environments • Demonstrated production ownership including observability, on-call support, incident investigation, and improvements that prevent recurring failures • Deep proficiency in Go, Python, or comparable backend language, with experience building libraries, command-line tools, or developer workflows • Experience building or supporting frontend libraries, SDKs, or embedded customer experiences, with ability to reason about client-side integration, authentication, error handling, and usability • Ability to define architecture and engineering standards across distributed teams, enable independent execution through documentation and technical review • Strong communication skills with external engineering teams; ability to turn ambiguous business needs into practical technical plans and balance enterprise commitments with reusable platform investments • Thoughtful approach to AI tool adoption for implementation, testing, debugging, and review while maintaining responsibility for correctness, security, and maintainability
