Anthropic's Infrastructure organization builds and operates the distributed systems that train, serve, and secure AI models at scale. This includes data pipelines, some of the world's largest Kubernetes clusters, and the databases, observability, and developer tooling that every team at Anthropic depends on.
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Infrastructure team, you will scope and lead complex, multi-month infrastructure projects that shape the foundation other engineers and teams build on. You'll make architectural decisions, drive alignment on technical direction across teams, and work through ambiguous problem spaces. You'll partner closely with research and product teams to understand their infrastructure and compute needs, translating those into robust technical designs.
Key responsibilities include independently scoping and delivering complex infrastructure projects from ambiguous starting points through production systems; making architectural decisions that influence company-wide engineering; driving technical alignment across teams; owning the reliability, scalability, and security of systems as usage and complexity grow; setting technical strategy and standards for your team's infrastructure; building and improving operational processes like incident response and on-call rotations; and mentoring other engineers to raise the technical bar.
You'll need experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems in production; a track record of independently scoping and delivering complex, multi-month technical projects; experience making architectural decisions that other engineers build on; strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in languages like Python, Rust, Go, or Java; and hands-on experience with modern cloud infrastructure including Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code on AWS and/or GCP.
