Verkada is a high-growth, well-funded physical AI platform company protecting organizations through integrated video security, access control, air quality, alarms, intercoms, and visitor management. The company serves 30,000+ customers including 100+ Fortune 500 companies, has a $5.8B valuation, and $1B+ in annualized bookings. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Identity & Access Management team, you will own the technical architecture of Verkada's internal access management platform—the system of record for employee, service, and non-human access across all company resources. This is a high-impact, company-wide role that directly influences security posture and operational efficiency across engineering, operations, and compliance functions. Key responsibilities include: - Designing and operating the backend infrastructure for access provisioning, review, and audit using modern cloud-native tooling - Extending and hardening integrations with identity providers like Okta, including custom roles, entitlement mapping, and infrastructure-as-code management - Building automation to replace manual access review workflows, incorporating AI-assisted risk scoring and anomaly detection - Creating developer-friendly tools (including chat-based interfaces) for self-service access requests, approvals, and auditing - Ensuring access controls meet compliance and regulatory requirements - Setting technical strategy and guardrails for AI-driven and agentic workflows You'll need 5+ years of backend or security platform engineering experience, with demonstrated expertise building access management platforms and identity infrastructure from scratch. Strong knowledge of identity primitives, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, SCIM, and access control models (RBAC, PBAC, ABAC) is essential. Experience with high-availability cloud-native infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform), Okta at scale, and replacing manual workflows with automation—especially AI/LLM-driven tooling—is highly valued. Bonus points for regulated/compliance-heavy environments (FedRAMP, SOC 2, ISO 27001) and Slack-based chat-ops experience.
