Apollo.io is an AI-powered go-to-market platform trusted by over 500,000 companies globally. Founded in 2015, the company has raised approximately $250 million and is valued at $1.6 billion. Apollo provides sales and marketing teams with verified contact data for over 210 million B2B contacts and 35 million companies, along with tools to engage and convert prospects in a unified platform.
In this Staff Software Engineer role, you will set technical direction at the organizational level across Apollo's engineering teams. You will own the hardest, most ambiguous, and highest-stakes technical bets that shape the product for years to come. Your impact will be felt org-wide rather than confined to a single team, and you will serve as a force multiplier across many teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the technical direction of Apollo's most critical and ambiguous problems across team and organizational boundaries
- Making architectural bets that shape the product and platform over multiple years, with accountability for outcomes
- Setting technical strategy for the rebuild around AI and agents, translating it into executable direction for teams
- Raising the engineering bar across the whole organization through standards, patterns, and decisions you drive
- Multiplying engineer and team output far beyond your own code through design, review, and mentorship of senior engineers
- Partnering with engineering and product leadership as a peer on technology direction
- Setting the standard for AI-native engineering at the highest level, using agents to move faster on design, investigation, and implementation work
- Defining practices other engineers adopt and identifying step-change bets where AI reshapes how the product is built
Tech stack: React (frontend); Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Python, MongoDB, and Elasticsearch (backend); Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform (infrastructure); GCP for cloud.
Qualifications:
- Track record of setting technical direction that shaped a product or platform across an entire engineering organization
- Depth across distributed systems and architecture, with command of reliability, scale, and cost tradeoffs behind company-defining decisions
- Judgment to make hard calls under ambiguity and influence to align many teams behind decisions
- Record of multiplying the most senior engineers around you
- Genuine, current fluency with AI-assisted development and a clear point of view on where AI takes engineering next
