Apptronik is a human-centered robotics company developing AI-powered humanoid robots to support humanity across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and beyond. The company's flagship robot, Apollo, is built to collaborate with people and solve critical labor challenges at scale. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Motion Control & Planning team, you will be a senior technical force multiplier responsible for raising the quality of the entire robotics controls stack. Your scope spans whole-body control for wheeled and biped platforms, learning-based hand control, mobile manipulation, and teleoperation. You will translate state-of-the-art control theory and learning methods into robust, production-grade capability. Key responsibilities include: - Architecting and improving the controls stack across real-time performance, algorithms, testing, and long-term maintainability - Advancing whole-body control coordination between base/legs and upper-body manipulation - Flexing across the full stack to tackle the highest-impact problems: learning-based hand control, mobile manipulation, teleoperation, and state estimation - Translating model-based and learning-based methods from simulation through hardware bring-up and deployment - Expanding robot performance in speed, payload, reliability, and safety with measurable improvements - Setting technical direction for the controls roadmap and influencing adjacent teams (locomotion, manipulation, RL, estimation) - Mentoring engineers and multiplying team capability through design and code reviews - Collaborating cross-functionally with hardware, systems, and RL teams to co-develop solutions You will need deep robotics fundamentals (kinematics, dynamics, state estimation, control theory), proven expertise in whole-body control (WBC/OSC, QP-based, MPC) for floating-base or mobile systems, and hands-on experience with learning-based control and reinforcement learning in robotics. Strong software engineering in real-time C++ and Python is essential. You should have industry experience developing production-grade controllers validated on physical hardware, ideally with a track record of shipping controllers to production fleets or to market at scale. Experience with dexterous manipulation, legged locomotion, or safety-critical software (ISO 13849, 10218, IEC 61508) is preferred.
