Zoox is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to design, build, and operate a custom high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure platform that powers the company's autonomous vehicle development. As Zoox scales its AV capabilities, the HPC platform must support rapidly growing compute, storage, and scheduling demands across the entire engineering organization.
You will modernize and evolve Zoox's HPC platform, which is built on industry-leading technologies including Ray.io, SLURM, and Kubernetes. The focus areas are reliability, scalability, and developer velocity—ensuring that all software teams (data engineering, AI model training for Perception, Planner, Prediction, Simulation, and more) have the infrastructure they need to move fast.
This role offers significant technical scope and strategic influence. You will define the HPC platform strategy both technically and organizationally, working closely with stakeholders across Autonomy and Software teams to understand their workload requirements and translate them into robust, scalable infrastructure solutions. Your work directly impacts the productivity and effectiveness of every engineering team at the company.
Key responsibilities include architecting and scaling HPC services, improving platform reliability and performance, collaborating with cross-functional teams on infrastructure requirements, and driving technical decisions that support the company's growth. This is a high-impact individual contributor role with the autonomy to shape the future of Zoox's compute infrastructure.
