Okta is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer (Full Stack) to join the Imports Platform team, a strategic initiative modernizing Okta's identity lifecycle management capabilities. The team is migrating from a legacy monolithic system to a highly scalable, distributed microservices platform that orchestrates importing, syncing, mapping, and provisioning of identities and access policies from external directory services including Active Directory, Office 365, and LDAP-based systems.
In this role, you will be a technical leader who independently owns end-to-end features and platform capabilities spanning intuitive user interfaces, REST/GraphQL APIs, high-throughput asynchronous job engines, and microservice backends. You will drive technical strategy, make critical architectural decisions across the entire stack, and influence both your immediate team and cross-functional initiatives. Key responsibilities include leading full-stack architectural design and execution across frontend, APIs, microservices, and data layers; independently owning and delivering complex products end-to-end from admin configuration flows to backend event streams; driving the migration strategy for features from legacy systems into modern, modular applications and distributed microservices; architecting robust RESTful/GraphQL APIs optimized for performance and security; partnering with Product Managers, UX Designers, Architects, QA, and SRE teams; conducting comprehensive code reviews across frontend and backend codebases; troubleshooting complex production incidents and performing root cause analyses; and mentoring senior and junior engineers across full-stack technologies.
Required qualifications include 7+ years of software development experience building highly reliable, mission-critical, enterprise-grade software at scale across both frontend and backend stacks. You must have deep expertise with Java and the Spring Boot framework for building distributed microservices, RESTful APIs, and scalable backend workflows. The role requires strong technical leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term platform health. This is a hybrid position requiring a blend of remote and in-office collaboration.
