As a Staff Software Engineer, you will own and drive technical strategy across multiple squads, shaping architectural decisions that have lasting impact on Onebrief's platform. You'll tackle the company's most ambiguous technical challenges, turning loosely defined problems into scalable solutions that engineering teams can execute. Your role involves building shared systems, patterns, and platform capabilities that enable teams to move faster and deliver more effectively.
Key responsibilities include partnering with engineering and product leadership to influence the technical roadmap while balancing long-term platform health with rapid customer delivery. You'll shape how engineering works by evolving AI-assisted development practices, engineering standards, and technical decision-making across the organization. You'll raise the technical bar by mentoring engineers through design reviews, architectural guidance, and cross-team collaboration.
The ideal candidate has 12+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of technical leadership across teams and platforms. You should have strong experience designing scalable distributed systems, APIs, data models, and cloud-native architectures. Full-stack expertise across frontend, backend, and infrastructure is essential. You're an active user of AI-assisted development tools with a thoughtful approach to integrating them into workflows. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are critical, including driving technical alignment through design docs and architecture discussions. You're comfortable leading through ambiguity and influencing without direct authority.
Nice-to-have qualifications include background in mission-critical or high-compliance domains (FedRAMP, SOC2, DoD), experience with authentication and identity infrastructure at scale (OIDC, SAML, federated identity), prior experience in high-growth B2B SaaS environments, and familiarity with event-driven architectures.
The tech stack includes React, TypeScript, Vite, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, Keycloak, and OpenID Connect. Success means setting technical direction on problems spanning multiple squads, making architectural calls that save the organization months, owning shared architecture in critical seams, raising technical judgment of surrounding engineers, and refining standards for how the organization uses AI tooling effectively.
