Deliveroo is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Full Stack to join its London engineering team on a hybrid basis (3 days in office). This is a high-impact role within a global three-sided marketplace serving millions of customers, riders, and restaurant partners daily.
In this position, you will act as a technical authority and subject matter expert, providing strategic guidance across multiple engineering teams. Your responsibilities include architecting scalable solutions for complex business problems in a high-traffic environment (20k+ requests per minute), defining and influencing the long-term technical roadmap, and mentoring engineers at all levels. You will lead engineering interviews, contribute to recruiting strategy, and help shape the company's engineering culture.
Your day-to-day work involves driving technical excellence through high-level code reviews and architectural advice, designing systems that handle massive request volumes and complex logistical workflows, managing project timelines and sustainable delivery paces, and partnering with cross-functional teams to resolve ambiguous technical challenges.
You should bring significant experience building web-based applications in modern stacks (Go, Ruby, Python, Scala), proven ability to design and operate web architecture at scale, and demonstrated expertise with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL backends (Redis, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch). Strong strategic leadership skills and the ability to align multiple disciplines are essential.
