Okta is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join the Defensive Cyber Engineering organization, supporting the Public Sector roadmap. You'll work at the intersection of security, infrastructure, and data engineering to build and maintain the Security Data Platform and tooling that enable Okta's Detection and Response capabilities.
In this role, you'll serve as a technical subject matter expert for solution engineering and architecture reviews, particularly in Detection and Response and enterprise security tooling. You'll lead technical efforts to evaluate, design, and implement new enterprise security systems and feature enhancements. Your responsibilities include building and maintaining custom automation and cloud infrastructure using Terraform, developing integrations with APIs and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), and writing Python-based scripts and automations to streamline security operations.
You'll establish monitoring and alerting for security posture across endpoints, SaaS, and cloud workloads, proactively identify and remediate security gaps, and collaborate closely with Security, Business Technology Engineering, and Product teams. The role requires expertise in building scalable, fault-tolerant data pipelines for security event processing, ETL/ELT pipeline development, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
Required qualifications include 8+ years of strong coding and scripting experience with a focus on security automation, proficiency in Python, experience with Terraform and CI/CD pipelines, and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance (Secret or Top Secret). Preferred experience includes 2+ years in highly regulated environments (FedRAMP High, IL4-IL6), current or previous security clearance, familiarity with identity management technologies (MFA, SAML, OAuth, OIDC, WebAuthn), and knowledge of Okta's ecosystem. You'll need strong communication skills to collaborate with technical staff, support teams, executive leadership, and external vendors.
