Fanatics Markets is a real-money prediction and trading platform where users invest in outcomes across sports, entertainment, politics, and beyond. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Distributed Systems team, you'll own the event-driven infrastructure powering real-money trading at scale.
You'll design, build, and optimize distributed systems using Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot, architecting for the traffic spikes and concurrency demands of a live trading platform. Key responsibilities include developing and optimizing high-throughput event pipelines using Kafka (partition strategy, consumer group design, exactly-once processing), designing low-latency event stream processors with sub-millisecond read paths under peak load, and ensuring data integrity and cache coherence.
You'll partner with product and engineering leadership on cross-domain technical decisions, diagnose and fix production issues in a live trading environment (distinguishing pricing latency, strategy misfires, mapping errors, adverse selection patterns), and proactively identify performance bottlenecks and technical risks before they impact trading operations. You'll also raise engineering standards through design docs, code reviews, and architectural patterns that scale as the product expands.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role where real money is on the line every time the system quotes a price. You won't be handed a spec—you're expected to understand the trading business well enough to write one and care about outcomes beyond shipping features. You'll work alongside engineer leaders on a sprint-based team where the work is technically demanding, commercially consequential, and directly visible in daily P&L snapshots.
