Checkout.com is a global fintech platform powering over 10 billion transactions yearly for companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony. As a Staff Software Engineer within the Payments Performance pillar, you will provide strategic technical leadership for the Experimentation and Decisioning Platform, guiding the long-term technical direction and strategy for a mission-critical system serving global payments infrastructure.
You will drive architectural priorities across multiple engineering teams, mentor and coach engineers on complex distributed systems challenges, and collaborate cross-functionally with Data Science, Platform, and ML Engineering teams to shape product direction. Your role balances technical excellence with pragmatic impact, ensuring solutions are built for scale and reliability.
Key responsibilities include: establishing the technical vision and roadmap for the experimentation platform; identifying opportunities to elevate engineering standards and foster continuous improvement; translating requirements into actionable engineering initiatives; serving as a role model for engineering excellence; and championing best practices in code, architecture, and operational excellence.
You bring extensive hands-on experience building, operating, and scaling complex cloud-based distributed systems at global scale, with deep expertise in Go and concurrent, memory-efficient, low-latency backend architectures. You have a proven track record implementing and scaling experimentation systems, feature-flagging infrastructures, or similar data-intensive backend systems. Strong technical leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a data-driven approach to infrastructure are essential. Experience with adaptive experimentation ML techniques (contextual bandits, Bayesian optimization, RL-based allocation) is a bonus.
Checkout.com operates a hybrid model with three days per week in-office in Amsterdam to support collaboration. The company has 20 offices across six continents with London as headquarters, and is actively shaping the future of fintech.
