Discord is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to build the Enterprise Platform discipline from the ground up as the founding engineering hire. This is a greenfield opportunity to define technical direction, set architectural foundations, and establish engineering practices for Discord's internal systems.
You will transform Discord's enterprise infrastructure from manual, console-driven operations into a self-service, API-driven platform. Key responsibilities include:
• Device Fleet Management: Migrate device configuration from consoles into versioned, code-driven infrastructure using tools like Jamf, establishing infrastructure-as-code patterns for endpoint management and hardware provisioning.
• Identity Automation: Design and implement identity systems and app integrations as code, replacing admin console workflows with version-controlled, CI/CD-driven processes for SSO, SCIM, and account management.
• Infrastructure & Deployment: Own the design of deployment pipelines and IaC standards that enable internal systems to be built and modified safely, establishing CI/CD best practices across the organization.
• Self-Service Platform: Build APIs, CLIs, and portals that compose infrastructure primitives into paved paths—automating workflows like new-hire onboarding where software access and group memberships are provisioned in a single auditable flow.
• Technical Leadership: Write RFCs, documentation, and architectural guidance that define the discipline and serve as the foundation for future team growth.
You should have 6+ years building and operating production software at technology companies, with strong fundamentals in Python, TypeScript, or Rust. Deep hands-on experience with IAM (SSO, SCIM, OAuth/OIDC, RBAC), Terraform, and CI/CD is essential. Experience treating endpoint and fleet management as an API-driven engineering surface at scale is required. A platform-as-a-product mindset and comfort with ambiguity are critical—you'll be energized by building from scratch with a founder's temperament.
Bonus experience includes hands-on work with Okta, Jamf, or Intune; identity governance for non-human or AI-agent principals; or background at high-growth consumer tech companies.
