Salary: USD 218,025 - 256,500 / annual
Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Agent Engagement and Experience team within the Enterprise Applications and Architecture (EAA) organization. In this role, you will architect and deliver distributed backend systems and foundational infrastructure components that power customer service and compliance processes for CX agents across the company.
You will be responsible for designing and building high-reliability services using Golang, gRPC, TypeScript, and React. Your work will directly improve customer satisfaction and compliance outcomes at scale. Key responsibilities include architecting distributed systems with components like dynamic configuration, container orchestration, and secrets storage; leading technical direction by defining strategic roadmaps with engineering management and stakeholders; owning end-to-end delivery from design through production deployment; mentoring engineers on design techniques, coding standards, testing practices, and operational best practices; and partnering cross-functionally with teams across multiple time zones to identify platform improvements and communicate complex technical concepts.
You will need 8+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated ability to architect and deliver distributed systems solving ambiguous, high-impact problems. Deep proficiency in Go and experience building scalable, high-traffic backend services in production is essential, including API development (gRPC, GraphQL), event-driven architectures (Kafka, MQ), and SQL or NoSQL databases. Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and DevOps tooling such as AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines is required, along with knowledge of rate limiters, caching, load balancing, circuit breakers, and observability tools (metrics, logging, tracing). You should have a proven track record of leading technical projects end-to-end, mentoring engineers, and influencing architectural decisions across teams without direct authority. Experience using generative AI responsibly to maintain human oversight and deliver business-ready outputs is valued.
