The Browser Company is building a next-generation browser designed to empower users and enhance how they interact with the internet. The company is investing heavily in an AI-native development stack that fundamentally transforms how software is built internally. As a Staff Software Engineer, Developer Experience, you will lead the design and evolution of The Browser Company's internal software factory—a platform that enables engineers and non-engineers to describe what they want to build, with AI agents and automated systems handling execution. This is not a traditional DevOps or CI/CD role; you'll be building a product-like experience around code planning, generation, review, and deployment. Key responsibilities include: - Build and evolve the core "build how we build" platform, creating an internal SaaS-like experience that abstracts complexity while maintaining control and visibility. - Partner with AI and infrastructure teams to integrate existing production systems (AI coding tools, virtualized environments, CI pipelines, AI code reviewers, evaluations, and model optimization) into a cohesive, opinionated product. - Improve ergonomics, latency, and cost of the agentic development stack; define success metrics and iterate based on real engineer feedback. - Set technical direction for developer experience across the company, influencing peers through technical excellence rather than management authority. - Shape three major technical initiatives: agentic SDLC (integrating frontier models into code review and deployment), agent platform (enabling teams to build custom agents with scoped access), and compute infrastructure (scaling macOS, Windows, and Linux environments for agent and human verification). The role offers significant autonomy and impact. You'll work in a high-trust, high-ambiguity environment where you drive decisions independently, seek feedback proactively, and mentor engineers around you through your work. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of experience with developer tools, build environments, open-source developer tooling, or low-level systems experience. - Demonstrated passion for building tools and systems that increase engineer productivity; commitment to elegant, maintainable design. - Staff-level autonomy and influence: ability to set technical direction, make sound tradeoffs independently, and elevate engineers around you. - Comfort in high-trust, high-ambiguity environments; ability to seek feedback without requiring hand-holding. - Must have 4+ hours of overlap with Eastern Time Zone team members (North American time zones required).
