Salary: CAD 160,000 - 220,000 / annual

Okta is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to join the Data Platform team, responsible for foundational data services, systems, and products that power streaming analytics, interactive reporting, ML infrastructure, and product telemetry at scale. In this role, you will design, build, and deploy high-performance, data-intensive platform components that serve the entire engineering organization. You'll work across teams to architect solutions for streaming infrastructure, data processing, and analytics systems. Key responsibilities include: - Design, implement, and own data-intensive, high-performance, scalable platform components - Collaborate with engineering teams, architects, and cross-functional partners on project development, design, and implementation - Conduct and participate in design reviews, code reviews, performance analysis, and tuning - Coach and mentor engineers to help scale the engineering organization - Debug production issues across services and multiple stack levels The Data Platform team works with modern technologies including Kinesis, Flink, ElasticSearch, Snowflake, Kafka, and Spark. This role has significant impact on the direction and implementation of solutions that position Okta as a leader in data and machine learning for security. REQUIREMENTS: - 8+ years of experience with object-oriented languages, preferably Java - Hands-on experience with cloud-based distributed computing technologies: - Messaging systems (Kinesis, Kafka) - Data processing systems (Flink, Spark, Beam) - Storage & compute systems (Snowflake, Hadoop) - Coordinators and schedulers (Kubernetes, Hadoop, Mesos) - Experience developing and tuning highly scalable distributed systems - Excellent grasp of software engineering principles - Solid understanding of multithreading, garbage collection, and memory management - Experience with reliability engineering in data quality, data observability, and incident management NICE TO HAVE: - Background in security, encryption, identity management, or authentication infrastructure - Experience with major public cloud providers building mission-critical, high-volume services - Hands-on data integration development for large-scale (petabyte) environments with batch and online systems - Contributions to distributed systems development or high-volume/criticality usage (Kafka, Hadoop) - Experience developing Kubernetes-based services on AWS
