The Customer Platform team owns the APIs, entitlements, policies, and platform primitives that connect every customer, partner, and internal product line to Chainguard's core offering. This is the integration layer that every internal team depends on and the first touchpoint for customers.
As a Staff Software Engineer on this team, you will own hard problems end-to-end without hand-holding and serve as the technical anchor for a team that touches every corner of the company. Your responsibilities include designing and building backend systems in Go (REST/gRPC APIs) that power entitlement, policy, and customer onboarding services. You'll own features from design through implementation, rollout, and iteration in close partnership with Product Management and partner engineering teams.
You will serve as the primary technical interface between Customer Platform and other Chainguard engineering teams (Containers, Libraries, OS packages), understanding their requirements and building integration paths. You'll extend Chainguard's agentic AI foundation into customer-facing product experiences and provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior and mid-level engineers, helping the team break down ambiguity and build toward clear outcomes.
Required qualifications include production Go experience, strong ownership of API design and backend systems at scale with demonstrated shipping and operation in production, and experience working across multiple engineering teams to align on technical standards and integration patterns. You should be comfortable operating in ambiguity, coming with a diagnosis, recommendation, and path forward rather than just problem statements. Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and provide technical guidance without needing a management title is essential.
Desirable experience includes familiarity with cloud-native environments (Kubernetes, cloud provider APIs), entitlements, billing systems, platform infrastructure, and prior exposure to building or extending AI-powered product features.
