Metropolis is an AI and computer vision company building frictionless, checkout-free experiences in the real world, starting with parking. The company is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead one of its Customer Experience application development teams through the next growth phase.
In this role, you will drive the technical vision and roadmap across the company, establishing technologies and best practices to achieve operational excellence in system reliability while enabling rapid experimentation and data-informed decisions. You will enable step-function improvements in developer experience and velocity, coach engineers to bring out their best, and actively drive hiring of top talent. The position requires formulating and implementing a technical vision that provides direction across the entire company, empowering a collaborative environment where the best product and technical ideas are nurtured, and creating competitive advantages for customers through the global platform.
You should have 10+ years of experience building customer-centric applications and products, with demonstrated experience initiating and driving technical direction. You will design and deliver large-scale distributed systems and software products in high-volume consumer-facing applications, utilizing strong fundamental computer science skills and expert-level knowledge of Scala, Java, or related languages. Experience with data-intensive architectures, release engineering processes, and excellent communication skills across functions are essential. The role involves building end-to-end mobility platforms supporting high-throughput locations, aviation, fleet management, and other use cases impacting millions of people.
The tech stack includes TypeScript, React, Scala (principal), Java, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, AWS, Git, GitHub, Copilot, Claude Code, and Datadog. The position requires 3 days per week in-office collaboration to drive innovation and strengthen culture.
