Datadog is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead technical evaluation of acquisition and investment opportunities in AI, cloud, and security. This role bridges engineering and corporate development, reporting to the Senior Director of Product Strategy within the Product organization.
You will own technical due diligence across Datadog's M&A pipeline, evaluating startup technologies from product and architecture perspectives. Key responsibilities include scoping and standing up proof-of-concept environments to stress-test candidate products, assessing technical architecture and integration risks, and providing unvarnished assessments that inform leadership decisions. You'll work closely with Product and Engineering teams to keep evaluations focused on decision-relevant factors, then translate findings into strategic recommendations and integration roadmaps.
Specific duties include identifying compelling opportunities aligned with Datadog's strategy through engagement with business leaders and VCs; partnering with product teams on expansion assessments; serving as a subject matter expert on valuation and integration; leading all pre-transaction technical due diligence; setting up trial environments to validate startup claims; and acting as the main contact point for startups and cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Security) on integration, value, and architecture questions.
You bring 8+ years of experience in product development, solution architecture, or engineering. You hold a BS/MS/PhD in a STEM field or equivalent. You're an excellent communicator with versatile knowledge across cloud technologies (infrastructure, APM, security, analytics, AI/ML) and deep familiarity with Datadog's product suite. You think strategically, research emerging technologies, work effectively cross-functionally, and communicate opinions concisely to leadership.
