Manifold is an AI platform for life sciences that accelerates the development and deployment of life-changing medicines. The company serves global research institutions and clinical organizations by providing tools that speed up workflows in target identification, clinical development, market access, and precision medicine, while maintaining regulatory compliance. Manifold is backed by leading investors including Reach Capital, TQ Ventures, Calibrate Ventures, SilverArc Capital, and Industry Ventures, and serves tens of thousands of users across hundreds of organizations globally. The Core Platform team is a small, senior group responsible for foundational services powering Manifold's data, compute, and workflow capabilities. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will work on compute infrastructure, workflow orchestration, data pipelines, platform APIs, and MCP services that support enterprise users and their AI agents analyzing genomics and life sciences datasets at scale. Key responsibilities include designing, building, and operating compute and workflow orchestration services; developing extensible solutions for AMI management, autoscaling, custom runtime environments, and third-party tool integration; collaborating with the SRE team to improve reliability and observability; establishing operational standards and runbooks; mentoring engineers and driving technical decisions through clear documentation; partnering with Product and Forward Deployed Engineers to translate enterprise requirements into durable platform capabilities; and contributing to Manifold's AI-native platform vision. You will bring 8+ years of enterprise software experience with meaningful backend, infrastructure, or distributed systems work. Required skills include mastery of Python, deep infrastructure-as-code expertise (Terraform), and experience managing compute environments on AWS (EC2, ECS, Batch). Bioinformatics workflow experience (WDL, Nextflow, Cromwell) and life sciences or regulated-industry background are valued. You demonstrate operational ownership, build for observability from the start, and have genuinely integrated AI tools into your engineering workflow with concrete examples of impact. You understand the life sciences research landscape and can articulate why accelerating breakthrough science matters to you.
