Attentive is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain the internal business intelligence tooling and platform that powers operational metrics generation and retrieval across the organization. This is a high-impact role focused on building scalable, reliable systems that serve both internal users and support the company's analytics infrastructure.
Key responsibilities include designing and implementing software components for BI tooling; developing comprehensive testing strategies to ensure accuracy and long-term maintainability; enhancing code quality through refactoring and architectural improvements; and optimizing both user-facing and internal platform features for scalability, performance, and fault tolerance. You will translate business requirements into detailed technical plans by collaborating closely with product teams, internal stakeholders, and subject matter experts. As a Staff-level engineer, you will provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers, mentor through code review and design discussions, and drive knowledge sharing across the team.
The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of professional software development experience with deep expertise in backend systems using Java, object-oriented programming, and production environments. You should have extensive experience with relational and non-relational databases, distributed systems, data storage, streaming, and processing technologies. Strong background required in architecting high-scale, high-availability applications supporting metrics, analytics, or data-intensive workloads. Technical skills must include Python, SQL, and cloud-based data tools (Snowflake, DBT, Spark, Kinesis, Airflow, PostgreSQL). AWS-based microservices and data pipelines experience is essential, along with event-driven architectures using Kafka or Pulsar. You should have 5+ years designing and maintaining BI and data visualization workflows, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, and 4+ years designing microservices architectures with GraphQL and RESTful APIs for large-scale, data-driven applications.
