Salary: USD 218,025 - 256,500 / annual
Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to architect and build Agentic AI systems that transform how the company operates. As part of the Core Automation team within the Platform group, you will own the technical direction for production AI systems, designing intelligent agents, orchestration frameworks, and measurement systems that deliver customer experiences at scale.
Key responsibilities include architecting Agentic AI systems powering compliance automation and operations; designing foundational APIs and measurement frameworks to ensure AI agents are grounded and reliable with minimal hallucination; leading technical direction for distributed systems underpinning AI automation; building reusable primitives and orchestration solutions that enable AI-powered automation to scale across multiple domains; and mentoring engineers on AI system design techniques and production-readiness practices for LLM-based applications.
You will work cross-functionally to bring the vision of a fully AI-driven world to reality, defining architecture patterns and strategic roadmaps in partnership with engineering leadership. The role requires deep expertise in designing APIs, orchestration layers, and evaluation frameworks for agentic AI systems at scale.
Required qualifications: 8+ years in software engineering with demonstrated experience architecting distributed systems and shipping production AI/ML applications; experience working with LLM-based applications, including measuring and improving grounding, reducing hallucinations, and building guardrails for reliability; and deep expertise designing APIs, orchestration layers, and evaluation frameworks for agentic AI systems at scale.
