As Staff Backend Software Engineer, you will serve as a primary technical authority driving the design, performance, and scaling of core backend architecture. You'll partner closely with engineering leadership and cross-functional teams to architect resilient, high-velocity services powering the next-generation intelligent site technology platform. Key responsibilities include: - Provide strategic technical leadership on backend architecture, technical direction, and engineering design standards across production services - Ship high-impact, scalable Node.js/TypeScript code for business-critical backend systems and API services - Elevate engineering standards by implementing modern methodologies, best practices, and code quality benchmarks to ensure reliability and maintainability - Optimize development lifecycles by identifying system bottlenecks, streamlining CI/CD workflows, and introducing tooling that enhances team-wide developer productivity - Drive cross-functional alignment with Product, QA, and DevOps to translate product visions into technical specifications and delivery timelines - Navigate complex technical challenges and ambiguous requirements, applying rigorous problem-solving to protect uptime and system resilience - Mentor senior and mid-level software engineers through structured feedback, architectural design reviews, and continuous technical upskilling The role is based in Seattle on a hybrid schedule (3 days per week in office). You will be expected to shape engineering culture and elevate the technical output of the broader engineering organization while executing high-impact technical initiatives.
