As a Staff Software Engineer on the Backend team, you will architect and maintain highly scalable backend and data systems that power personalized messaging decisions for millions of subscribers. You'll work at the intersection of engineering excellence and machine learning, partnering closely with data scientists and ML engineers to optimize send-time algorithms and subscriber engagement propensity models.
Key responsibilities include: designing and optimizing real-time and batch data pipelines for performance and reliability at massive scale; building experimentation frameworks and feedback loops to continuously improve personalization performance; driving engineering best practices across distributed systems and high-scale infrastructure; conducting code reviews and advocating for quality standards; staying current with emerging technologies and contributing to technical strategy; participating in on-call rotations and incident response; and collaborating cross-functionally with product, design, and analytics teams to ship data-driven features.
You'll take ownership of code quality, scalability, reliability, and performance across multiple service domains. The role requires deep expertise in backend development, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and data platforms. This is a hybrid position with 2 days per week remote flexibility; primary office is at 114 Sansome Street, 10th Floor, San Francisco.
