Archer Technologies is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed to carry four passengers with minimal noise. The company is seeking an experienced Staff Backend Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and scaling of backend systems powering Archer's aviation products and cloud infrastructure.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems and APIs that support Archer's ride-sharing and airline operational platforms. You'll build cloud-native applications using Python and AWS technologies, including infrastructure-as-code with Terraform or AWS CDK. Key responsibilities include leading architectural design and system integrations to ensure systems are modular, efficient, and secure; collaborating with cross-functional teams across engineering, data, operations, and aerospace to define technical requirements; owning the full development lifecycle from design through deployment, monitoring, and maintenance; conducting code reviews and mentoring fellow engineers; and monitoring system performance while responding to production issues with effective debugging and root cause analysis.
You should have 7+ years of backend software engineering experience with a proven track record of delivering scalable systems. Expert-level proficiency in Python is required, along with strong experience in cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and modern backend architecture patterns. A BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related technical field is preferred. The ideal candidate has a "0 to 1 builder" mentality and thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment working on hard technical problems in sustainable aviation.
