Key responsibilities include:
- Own complex product areas end-to-end, from discovery and design through implementation, rollout, and iteration, working across Node/TypeScript backends, APIs, authentication systems, and React frontends.
- Lead architecture and system design for backend and API systems supporting real-time, high-volume workflows, including data contracts, authentication, and authorization models.
- Author technical design documents, set standards for code quality, testing, performance, and observability, ensuring designs scale cleanly as the company grows.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and other engineers to translate ambiguous requirements into intuitive, performant experiences.
- Mentor and uplevel engineers through design reviews, pairing, and feedback; model engineering excellence and foster a culture of craftsmanship.
- Improve developer experience and reliability by influencing APIs, data contracts, testing strategies, and progressive delivery practices across teams.
- Participate in on-call rotations and uphold operational excellence for owned areas.
Required qualifications:
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated Staff-level scope (cross-team technical leadership, strategy, and delivery).
- Proven track record owning products/features through the full lifecycle—discovery to deployment to iteration.
- Expertise with TypeScript/Node.js and API development (REST, WebSocket, gRPC); strong SQL fundamentals with PostgreSQL or similar RDBMS.
- Hands-on experience implementing authentication and authorization in production (OAuth2, JWT, RBAC, login/session flows, token storage/refresh) in distributed systems.
- Strong product mindset and communication skills; ability to simplify complexity, align stakeholders, and connect technical decisions to user and business impact.
Nice-to-have experience includes cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, Azure), CI/CD and progressive delivery, telephony/SIP softswitches (FreeSWITCH), or familiarity with Orum's specific stack.
