Salary: USD 185,000 - 200,000 / annual
Vestwell is a financial technology platform powering the savings economy, serving over 350,000 businesses and 2M active savers with $50B+ in assets across retirement, education, and healthcare savings. The company enables financial advisers, employers, third-party administrators, financial institutions, payroll providers, and government agencies.
We are seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to drive product feature development and architecture across our full engineering stack. This is a high-impact role where you will balance detail-oriented execution with long-term strategic initiatives and scaling efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain optimal software supporting product initiatives using TypeScript and Node.js
- Establish and enforce best practices in code quality and software design
- Collaborate with executive, product, and operations teams on development needs
- Translate requirements into executable development plans with iterative, agile implementation
- Provide production support and mentor junior engineers
- Drive architectural vision and design across multiple product verticals
- Manage delivery of high-impact development solutions
- Triage and assign work; lead remote contractors and cross-functional teams
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years as a Software Engineer
- Strong experience with TypeScript, Node.js, and Python
- Proficiency with AI tools (Claude, Cursor)
- Experience scaling and managing 3+ person teams
- Advanced Agile practices knowledge
- Mentoring experience with junior engineers
- Relational database and data architecture expertise
- AWS cloud services experience
- Software architecture and design expertise
- Git/GitHub proficiency
Preferred: Fintech experience, startup background, Jenkins pipeline building.
The role is hybrid-based in NYC, Austin, King of Prussia, or Scottsdale offices, with flexibility for exceptional remote candidates. Base salary $185K–$200K (NY metro rates; adjusted by location), plus bonus eligibility and new-hire equity.
