Spark Advisors is building healthcare technology to transform Medicare access for seniors and brokers. The company operates a fast-growing Medicare platform combining AI, CRM, and client services, serving 10,000+ brokers nationwide. The platform helps independent Medicare advisors guide seniors through complex annual plan changes that affect prescriptions, care access, and finances.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will drive technical progress across the Medicare industry by owning meaningful pieces of the engineering roadmap and setting quality standards for how the team builds. You'll work on both frontend and backend development for the industry-leading web-based broker platform, making architectural decisions that support long-term health and stability.
Key responsibilities include delivering impactful full-stack features that benefit Medicare brokers and beneficiaries; partnering with product and design leadership to shape scope and influence roadmap decisions; owning system-level decisions within your product domain; identifying and resolving sources of technical debt while balancing velocity with platform health; establishing engineering standards through code review practices and system design principles; and mentoring engineers around you. You'll leverage modern AI-powered developer tools to focus on meaningful problems and help scale their adoption across the team.
The ideal candidate has 8+ years of professional experience with modern JavaScript (Vue, React) or Python/backend web development, with meaningful hands-on experience in both. You should be comfortable with ambiguity and thrive in fast-paced environments. Product intuition is essential—you have a track record of connecting technical investments to business outcomes and influencing roadmap decisions. You're fluent with AI-powered development tools as part of your everyday workflow and possess exceptional communication skills to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. You've demonstrated a track record of leading architectural decisions at the domain level and shipping customer-facing products with technical excellence.
Nice-to-have qualifications include experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), expertise in Django or similar frameworks, a track record of defining technical strategy at the domain or team level, and a history of raising engineering standards through mentorship and code review culture.
