SingleStore is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership for SingleStore Flow, an enterprise data migration and integration product. Flow helps customers move data into SingleStore reliably and at scale, supporting schema transfer, bulk data loading, real-time Change Data Capture (CDC), large-table migrations, and native Helios integration across heterogeneous database environments including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, SAP HANA, Snowflake, Salesforce, and SingleStore-as-a-source. This is a hands-on individual contributor role with broad technical influence across the entire data path from source systems through migration engines, APIs, Helios services, and customer experience. You will own major architectural decisions, lead strategically important and release-defining initiatives, solve complex reliability and data-consistency problems, and help the team build durable systems customers can trust with critical migrations. Key responsibilities include: setting technical direction for migration engines, CDC pipeline, schema evolution, large-table migration, and source-to-target data correctness; leading design and delivery of large, complex projects from problem definition through production rollout; making pragmatic architecture decisions balancing customer value, reliability, performance, and delivery speed; designing and implementing production-quality software while remaining hands-on in the codebase; solving difficult problems involving data consistency, replication, schema drift, throughput, memory use, concurrency, and failure recovery; establishing high bars for technical design, code quality, testing, observability, and operational readiness; driving root-cause analysis for customer-impacting issues; improving production operations through runbooks, dashboards, and incident response; partnering with Product, Engineering, Support, Solutions, and customers; mentoring engineers and leading design reviews; creating clear technical documentation; and advancing AI-native development practices. SingleStore is venture-backed, headquartered in San Francisco, with offices in Sunnyvale, Raleigh, Seattle, Boston, London, Lisbon, Bangalore, Dublin, and Kyiv. The company delivers a real-time, distributed SQL database unifying transactional and analytical workloads, serving data-intensive applications globally. REQUIREMENTS: - Significant professional experience building and operating production software, typically 10+ years, or equivalent depth of experience and impact - Expert-level experience with Java, including ability to debug and improve complex, long-lived enterprise-grade codebases - Experience using JDBC with one or more databases, including SQL metadata, SQL datatypes, schema information, database-specific behavior, connection pooling, SQL execution, Apache Avro, Protocol Buffers, or similar serialization and integration technologies - Strong understanding of databases and data-intensive systems, including transactions, replication, indexing, connection management, and data consistency - Deep experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL - Experience with Java performance engineering, including concurrency, thread pools, garbage collection, memory pressure, or back-pressure - Hands-on experience with Change Data Capture or comparable streaming and replication technologies, such as database logs, logical replication, change tracking, checkpoints, or offsets - Demonstrated experience designing reliable, scalable distributed systems where correctness, performance, and availability matter - Experience with cloud-native services and container orchestration, preferably Kubernetes - Track record of leading large technical initiatives and making architecture decisions across team or functional-area boundaries - Strong testing discipline, including unit, integration, end-to-end, regression, performance, and failure-mode testing - Experience investigating production issues, writing root-cause analyses, and converting operational learnings into engineering improvements - Experience with observability, profiling, metrics, distributed tracing, and production dashboards - Excellent written and verbal communication, with ability to explain complex technical decisions to engineers, product partners, and customer-facing teams - Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and influence outcomes without relying on formal authority - Bachelor's or Master's (preferred) degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Additional experience with Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, SAP HANA, Snowflake, Salesforce, or SingleStore - Experience with schema evolution, schema-drift detection, datatype mapping, large-table migration, table slicing, throughput tuning, or zero-downtime data movement - Experience building APIs or full-stack product surfaces using Go, TypeScript, React, GraphQL, gRPC, or Kubernetes-native services - Experience building agentic applications, AI-assisted developer workflows, or systems that use LLMs to plan, diagnose, or automate operational tasks - Experience working directly with enterprise customers or customer-facing engineering teams on complex data or infrastructure problems
