ServiceNow is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (IC4) to lead the design, development, and delivery of complex, high-impact systems within their internal Go-To-Market applications and Sales CRM platform. This role sits at the intersection of commercial workflows (Sales, Deal Desk, Legal, Procurement) and AI-native development practices.
You will independently own backend services end-to-end, including REST/GraphQL APIs and event-driven microservices built on Kafka. You'll design and integrate microservices with ServiceNow platform applications, taking ownership of complex subsystems and setting technical direction within your domain. The role includes hands-on UI work using modern component frameworks, close collaboration with TPMs and business stakeholders to shape requirements, and day-to-day application of AI coding tools and agentic workflows as core development practices.
Key responsibilities include providing L3 support for internal business-critical systems, mentoring other engineers, raising the bar through code review and scalable system design, and modeling best practices in software craftsmanship, testing discipline, and debugging methodology. You'll work with technical trade-offs, drive alignment, and carry the operational consequences of architectural decisions.
ServiceNow emphasizes an AI-native culture and is looking for someone who combines deep software engineering fundamentals with hands-on, already-fluent expertise in AI-assisted and agentic development—not someone looking to pick it up on the job.
REQUIREMENTS:
- ~8+ years of practical software engineering experience, including production systems you've owned end-to-end
- Strong fundamentals: data structures, system design, REST/GraphQL, relational data modeling, testing
- Real, hands-on microservices experience, including event-driven architecture (Kafka or similar)
- Working front-end skills with a modern component framework
- Strong collaboration skills—comfortable working with TPMs and business stakeholders to clarify ambiguous requirements
- CI/CD, containers, observability, and L3 incident/support experience for internal production systems
- Current, hands-on experience with agentic workflows, LLM integration, RAG, Knowledge Graph, MCP, or prompt engineering—you should already be fluent here
- A record of mentoring engineers and raising quality through code review
NICE TO HAVE:
- Billing, contracts, quoting, or usage-based commercial systems experience
- Kafka/event-driven architecture depth, or NoSQL data modeling (e.g., Cosmos DB)
- ServiceNow Platform certification and/or development experience
