ScreenCloud is a cloud-based SaaS platform founded in 2015 that helps businesses manage content across digital screens at scale. With 10,000+ customers globally and 100+ employees across Bangkok, Belfast, LA, Charlotte, and London, ScreenCloud enables organizations to drive engagement and productivity through screen-based content management. Pulse is ScreenCloud's next-generation CMS for creating, scheduling, and managing content across fleets of screens. As a Staff Software Engineer on Pulse, you will shape the technical foundation of this product—its architecture, patterns, APIs, workflows, and quality standards—while remaining hands-on in the codebase. You'll provide technical direction through design documents, mentoring, and engineering standards that enable both customer-facing product development and platform capabilities for internal teams. Key Responsibilities: - Own technical design and architecture of major Pulse systems across the full stack: UI, APIs, backend services, data models, infrastructure, and operational tooling. - Shape how Pulse handles complex domains including permissions, scheduling, content workflows, moderation, auditability, multi-tenancy, and reliability at scale. - Design and evolve backend services using Fastify, creating consistent, well-documented, observable APIs for internal and external consumption. - Define and improve data models in Postgres using Drizzle/DrizzleKit, managing migrations, indexing, RLS, query performance, and patterns that maintain system clarity as it grows. - Build high-performance web experiences with Next.js and Server Components, balancing speed, UX, maintainability, and server/client rendering tradeoffs. - Manage AWS infrastructure using Pulumi, ensuring reproducibility, security, and safe changeability. - Establish engineering standards for testing, observability, release safety, migrations, API design, frontend architecture, and documentation. - Mentor engineers through technical design reviews, pairing, and feedback, raising decision quality across the team. - Collaborate with product, design, QA, platform, and other engineering teams to shape requirements and ship iteratively. - Leverage AI tools (Cursor, Claude, Gemini with MCP servers) to accelerate shipping and help the team develop sensible AI-assisted development practices. - Improve production operability through structured logging, metrics, traces, alerts, dashboards, and incident learnings. Required Experience: - Strong production experience shipping systems with TypeScript/Node.js across the full stack. - Deep relational database fundamentals, especially Postgres: schema design, migrations, indexing, RLS, query performance, transactions, and data modeling tradeoffs. - Significant backend API design and building experience with Fastify, Hono, Express, or similar frameworks; strong opinions on API ergonomics and stability. - Hands-on React/Next.js experience, including server components, client-side rendering, streaming, performance tradeoffs, and modern frontend architecture. - Strong architectural judgment: knowing when to keep things simple, when to introduce abstraction, and how to make decisions that age well. - Production systems experience: observability, incident response, release safety, and debugging distributed systems. - Track record of mentoring engineers, raising technical standards, and helping teams make better decisions. - Product mindset: you care about customer experience and understand that technical quality serves product outcomes. Bonus Skills: - Multi-tenant SaaS patterns (permissions, roles, audit logs, data isolation, compliance-aware design). - Modern web app development with React, Vue, Remix, or Next.js. - Architectural design patterns (Clean Architecture, MVC, SOLID, event-driven systems) and their tradeoffs. - Proficiency with latest AI tooling for code writing, debugging, and analysis. - Observability practices: structured logging, metrics, traces, alerting, SLOs, production dashboards. - Production system ownership and operability improvements. - Developer experience optimization: tooling, templates, docs, CI/CD speed, reliability, agentic workflows. - API, SDK, or internal platform design for other teams. - AI-assisted product feature implementation or guidance.
