Salary: USD 200,000 - 275,000 / annual

Peregrine Technologies is a Silicon Valley-backed AI platform company serving public safety organizations, state and local governments, federal agencies, and private-sector institutions. Currently supporting hundreds of customers across 30+ states and two countries, serving over 125 million people. You will join the core engineering team as a Staff Software Engineer, taking on a dual role combining hands-on technical leadership with people management. You'll develop and mentor a high-performing engineering team while driving impactful technical projects from conception through production. Your responsibilities include guiding engineers through complex technical challenges, ensuring alignment with business priorities, and maintaining high standards in technical execution. You'll work cross-functionally with design and product management to build robust, scalable, user-centered systems. The role involves both ownership of major features and close collaboration with other engineers, deployment teams, and end users (including emergency responders and law enforcement). You'll tackle challenges ranging from real-time collaborative mapping to high-scale backend architecture ingesting billions of data points. The technical stack includes Python, Django, Celery, Airflow, and Kafka on the backend; React, Redux, and Mapbox on the frontend; PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch for data storage; ML models in Bedrock and SageMaker; and AWS, Pulumi, Terraform, and Kubernetes for infrastructure. Required: 8+ years of cross-functional software development experience, CS degree or equivalent, proven track record shipping production-grade software, strong distributed systems knowledge, and ability to write robust, well-tested code. Must be located in NYC and open to in-office work.
