Lama AI is an AI-native lending platform founded in 2022 that streamlines lending end-to-end for banks and financial institutions. The company is already in production with dozens of banks and is backed by Tier-1 fintech investors. The mission is to transform lending from a weeks-long manual process into minutes of automated work, enabling banks to serve more customers and connect opportunities across a lending network.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will serve as a technical and process authority across the engineering organization. You will lead the architectural strategy of the core platform, drive complex product-engineering initiatives from vision to production, and own key technical processes. This is a senior individual contributor role that bridges product strategy with system implementation, establishes engineering standards, and elevates overall technical execution.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading end-to-end technical execution and system architecture for strategic product capabilities
- Partnering closely with Product, Design, and Domain Experts to refine product vision into scalable, high-performing system designs
- Driving engineering best practices across the team through RFCs, API guidelines, design patterns, and system design reviews
- Architecting and scaling high-throughput services, AI-native workflows, and cloud infrastructure for production reliability and security
- Acting as the primary technical partner for complex system issues, performance bottlenecks, and core infrastructure evolution
- Evaluating emerging technologies and leading their strategic adoption to keep the platform modern and efficient
The team is small, passionate, and mission-driven, with experience across React, Node.js, Kubernetes, AWS, and Kafka. You will work on one of the most challenging and exciting applications of AI in the financial services industry.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of hands-on software development experience with a proven track record of designing, building, and operating production systems at scale
- Proven experience as an Individual Contributor (IC) technical leader, driving system architecture and cross-functional technical processes
- Deep expertise in modern server-side and full-stack development (TypeScript/Node.js, Python, or similar)
- Strong system design skills, including hands-on experience with distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka)
- Solid experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), Docker, and Kubernetes
- Product-driven mindset: ability to balance architectural perfection with rapid iteration and business impact
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly across teams
