Curri is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Technology team as a technical leader who helps set the direction for how the company builds at scale. This role operates across multiple projects simultaneously—reviewing architecture, unblocking teams, and shaping the systems that other engineers build on top of. While you'll continue to write code and ship features, a growing portion of your impact comes from technical judgment, mentorship, and architectural direction provided to other engineers' work.
Curri runs last-mile logistics for national retailers and industrial suppliers across the US, providing on-demand delivery via a nationwide fleet of cars, trucks, and flatbeds. This role is central to keeping systems reliable and scalable as the company grows while raising the technical bar across the engineering organization.
Key responsibilities include architecting and guiding the design of scalable, long-lasting systems in partnership with multiple teams; leading architecture reviews and design discussions across several projects; unblocking engineers by jumping into complex technical problems and clearing blockers; staying hands-on by shipping production code regularly using AI tooling (Claude Code, Cursor) fluently; mentoring engineers at all levels; identifying systemic risks and technical debt before they become crises; and partnering with engineering leadership and PMs to translate business priorities into technical roadmaps.
Required qualifications: 8+ years building production software with a track record of owning architecture and technical direction beyond a single team; demonstrated experience leading system design for scalable, reliable production infrastructure; full-stack range with depth in backend systems (TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, Redis, NATS) and/or UI (React, React Native); fluency with AI-paired delivery tools and judgment about where AI accelerates teams; demonstrated mentorship pattern; strong, direct communication across technical and non-technical audiences; and comfort operating with influence rather than authority.
Bonus qualifications include experience scaling systems through significant growth inflection points (10x traffic, major re-architecture, platform migration); track record of identifying and driving fixes for systemic problems across multiple teams; experience setting technical standards around AI-paired development; and prior experience as tech lead, staff engineer, or architect at a fast-moving startup.
The company offers competitive salary, equity compensation, comprehensive benefits (health, dental, vision, 401K), remote-friendly flexibility or HQ-based work in Ventura, CA, and a high-growth, mission-driven environment where technical decisions have direct impact. Curri was founded in 2018, is part of the YC S19 batch, and is headquartered in Ventura, California.
