As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll own complex technical problems end-to-end—from design through deployment—partnering with Product, Design, Security, and Operations teams. Staff Engineers at CLEAR operate beyond single teams, influencing technical strategy across multiple products, shaping architectural direction, and driving alignment across the organization. You'll be a trusted partner to engineering and product leadership, consistently delivering high-impact solutions while mentoring engineers and raising execution quality.
Key responsibilities include designing and deploying scalable full-stack applications; owning projects end-to-end from technical discovery through operational support; translating business problems into simple, scalable technical solutions; driving technical direction and engineering best practices across teams; contributing to architectural decisions; mentoring teammates through code reviews and collaboration; and proactively identifying opportunities that create business impact.
You'll work across three technology pillars: Core Identity, CLEAR1 (digital identity), and CLEAR Travel. The tech stack includes Java, Python, React, and TypeScript, with cloud-native applications on AWS using Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines.
Required: 9+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience building production applications; strong fundamentals in distributed systems, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and modern software architecture; experience building and operating cloud-native applications on AWS; demonstrated history of owning complex cross-functional projects from idea to production; excellent communication skills to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
