Salary: USD 209,600 - 314,400 / annual

Carbon is a 3D printing company enabling creators to manufacture real-world products at scale. This Staff Software Engineer role focuses on platform backend infrastructure, joining a small, strong team of backend engineers. Key Responsibilities: - Own and operate Tier-0 mission-critical services including Fleet Management, Auth, and Core APIs that power Carbon's global printer network. Ensure these foundational services remain resilient and highly available. - Design and extend new high-impact web applications while maintaining system reliability. - Build scalable web infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), evolving the front-end infrastructure and cloud platform to support next-generation additive manufacturing. - Extend the "Web-to-Edge" bridge and scale database and API layers to handle increasing data demands. - Bring deep expertise in React and Three.js ecosystems to complex, data-heavy control systems. Apply sophisticated state management and high-performance rendering to customer-facing surfaces. - Take full ownership of substantial features and services from design through production. Influence architectural decisions and ensure long-term alignment as systems scale. - Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a diverse team of engineers and product managers. Translate customer needs into robust software designs, lead design and code reviews, and mentor junior engineers. Required Qualifications: - 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience - Expert knowledge in modern programming languages (Node, TypeScript, C++, Go, Python, Java, or similar) - Deep expertise in large-scale distributed systems and data pipelines - Strong background building and scaling APIs - Excellent communication, debugging, and problem-solving skills - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent This is an in-office role based in Sunnyvale, CA.
