Braze is seeking a Staff Fullstack Engineer to join the Core Objects team, a critical group responsible for the foundational data structures powering Braze's customer engagement platform. In this hands-on technical leadership role, you will drive the architecture, scalability, and performance of complex, high-scale backend systems that underpin the entire product offering. Key responsibilities include architecting and building large-scale systems to handle massive data volumes and complex real-time workloads, including extending the high-scale ingestion pipeline for new advanced data objects. You will own core backend systems, continuously improving their performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. As a technical leader, you'll mentor engineers on software design and operational best practices, collaborate cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to ensure alignment with business objectives, and identify opportunities to innovate and optimize systems through research and adoption of new technologies. The Core Objects team extensively integrates AI into its workflow, leveraging agentic tools to navigate the Ruby monolith, create proofs of concept, and transition rapidly from requirements to production solutions. You'll also maintain and evolve operational procedures including alerts, on-call rotations, and troubleshooting playbooks to maximize system stability. You bring 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with hands-on full-stack or backend services work, particularly with high-scale, high-throughput systems. You have a proven track record building foundational data-driven systems at scale—streaming pipelines, real-time systems, or large-scale data platforms. You excel at driving architectural direction, scoping large efforts, and managing technical debt with precise communication of complex concepts. Strong fundamentals in software design, data structures, and algorithms are essential, along with excellent communication and organizational skills. Bonus qualifications include familiarity with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, React, Go, and SQL/NoSQL databases; experience with MongoDB, Snowflake, or data lake solutions; cloud technologies like Kubernetes and AWS/GCP/Azure; and distributed systems architecture.
